The inside of the house

our new rental in the hills outside of panama city in a place called "Altos del Marie"

Our new residence for the time being

We gave up our place at the beach. Believe it or not you can have to much of a good thing. It was very hot and humid and every weekend the panamaians come from the city and Party 24 hours a day until sunday night and then its back to the city. We are renting a lovely house 22km up in the mountains. These mountains are about 2200 feet above sea level and provide lovely views and breezes. This will be home for the next couple of months.

Bateria Santiago

Just outside of Portabello is this 18th century fort. It was built to protect the port and that region of the Carribean

Black Christ

This little church in Portabello , Panama (near Colon) is the home of the Black Christ. Every Oct 21 tens of thousands come to the church to celebrate. The last picture is of vendors outside the church.

Lizards

These 2 beautiful Lizards were visiting the pool behind our unit

Shrimp on the BBY

I was at the market and they were selling fresh shrimp outside for 5 dollars a pound. I got 8 large shrimp for my 5 bucks. The proper way to clean these is to bend the head back and pull it off. I did one that way and almost barfed. The brains cames oozing out. I cut the heads off the rest of the shrimp, devained them and bbq them. Not to bad for a girl from Cow country. MMMmmm they were tasty.

Along the highway

This is a bus stop. They are all along the highway. Bus service between cities and towns is excellent. Small buses go between close towns but large greyhound type busses go between the larger cities. They are very cheap also. About $2. to go from Gorgona to Panama City (1 hour away)

Some of the more affulent houses along the way

yes, thats a Texaco. Shell is also everywhere.
